Dr. Nana is a proud UCLA Bruin alumni who credits her dedication to community activism, street medicine and scholastics to her early exposure to the Community Programs Office leadership academy and the Academic Advancement Program joining its legacy of servant community leaders. As an undergraduate, she received a dual degree in African Area Studies and Psychobiology. Dr. Nana earned her medical degree at the University of Rochester Medical School, her residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Chicago Medical Center, and her Masters fellowship in Global Public Health and Disaster Medicine at Columbia University.
Dr. Nana has dedicated her career to biopsychosocial medicine and structural change. As an innovator and thought leader, she believes that health is a human right and has helped organizations and government agencies design programming and health equity initiatives that close the equity gap by addressing the social and political determinants of health. Dr. Nana also has a track record of improving access to higher education and strengthening support around minority students and young professionals. She understands the debilitating impact that student debt has had on the medical provider pipeline, particularly when trying to increase the number of BIPOC clinicians serving marginalized communities.
The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated health disparities and increased the burnout rates of Black and Brown medical professionals. Witnessing this firsthand, Dr. Nana designed Project #Resus to resuscitate the medical pipeline and reinforce support around Black, women and first generation health professionals through their medical journey. Dr. Nana is proud to lead an organization that is intentional about spreading compassion through wellness, service and student loan relief for frontline health professionals while ensuring they receive the behavioral health services, peer support and encouragement they need to thrive.
